Custom family-guided backpacking trips are currently booking for June and July. Availability is limited.
Small-group, custom trips in the Bitterroot Valley and Rattlesnake area. Designed around your family’s goals, experience level, and schedule.
These trips are led by a licensed educator with extensive experience working with kids and teens outdoors, including guiding and supervising youth ages 7–18 in wilderness and outdoor learning settings. Routes, mileage, pacing, and daily expectations are thoughtfully adjusted to support younger hikers while still offering a true backpacking experience.
*A parent or legal guardian must accompany all minors. Family trips are generally recommended for ages 8+, with younger participants considered on a case-by-case basis.

Backpacking trips are custom-designed to fit your timeline, experience level, and goals. Destinations in the Bitterroot Valley and Rattlesnake Wilderness/Recreation Area offer options for a wide range of fitness levels, from first-time backpackers to those looking for a longer or more challenging trip. The destinations page is a great place to start when exploring route ideas.
Trips are led by a certified guide and licensed educator, with an emphasis on helping guests feel capable and comfortable in the backcountry. Along the way, you’ll learn practical skills such as pacing, camp setup, basic navigation, food planning, and Leave No Trace principles — with instruction tailored to both adults and kids when applicable.
Evenings and breaks are a highlight, with thoughtfully prepared backcountry meals and time to relax, including hammock setups for those who want to unwind or try something new. Routes, pace, and daily mileage are adjusted to match the group, creating a well-supported backpacking experience focused on learning, good food, and enjoying time outdoors.
The cost of this trip includes:
-Lightweight Backpacking gear - Hammock or Tent sleeping set-up
-Sleep system (sleeping bag, pad, and/or underquilt)
-Cook system + dishes/utensils
-Gourmet backpacking meals, snacks, and fresh bread
-Medical & Emergency supplies (map and compass included)
-Bear spray and Bear Bag/Can
-Water filter
-Waterproof ditty bag for small items
-Trowel
All of the other items you will need to bring are included on a detailed list emailed after booking!
BACKPACKING POLICY:
A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking.
The remaining balance is due 14 days prior to the trip start date.
Cancellations made 14 days or more before departure are eligible for a full refund of payments made, minus the deposit.
Cancellations made within 14 days of departure are non-refundable.
In the event of wildfire closures or unsafe weather conditions, alternative routes, dates, or activities will be offered whenever possible. Final decisions regarding safety and trip viability are made by the guide.
